AFRICAN LAMP

A smaller version of this unusual light was created for a client and then the design was elaborated on in this tour de force. The original elongated dome shape was created by a master Japanese potter. Sharon then took a mold of the clay form to make a fiberglass mold for creating the glass lamp. The mask faces are based on drawings she did from the African mask collection at the Art Institute. She took liberties with color but the designs allow African art scholars to recognize the tribal creators of the original masks.
